About P3O®

Aligned to PRINCE2®, MSP® and Management of Risk (M_o_R®), P3O® (an acronym for Portfolio, Programme and Project Offices) brings together a set of principles, processes and techniques — through universally applicable guidance that enables individuals and organizations to establish, develop and maintain business support structures — to deliver projects and programmes within an organization or a department within.

A P3O® model provides the structure, governance, functions and services required for defining a balanced portfolio of change and ensuring consistent delivery of programmes and projects across an organization or department.

P3O® is a model with which a bridge is created between the temporary change initiatives of the organization and the permanent 'business as usual' organization, with 3 possible functions:

  • Support strategic decision-making concerning the portfolio of projects and programmes
  • Support the delivery of results and benefits by projects and programmes
  • Set up a central source of expertise for successful project and programme management
Key capabiliites of P3O®
  • Enabling Business Change
  • Enabling and Supporting Business Outcomes
  • Enabling and Supporting Continual Improvement
  • Enabling and Demonstrating Value for Money
  • Optimizing Stakeholder Experiences
Benefits of P3O®
  • Informed senior management decision making on factors including strategy, prioritization, risk management and optimization of resources in order to successfully deliver their business objectives (portfolio management)
  • Identification and realization of business outcomes and benefits via programmes
  • Successful delivery of project outputs that enable benefits within time, cost and quality restraints
About the Training Course
We offer this learning in multiple formats:

  1. P3O® Foundation
  2. P3O® Practitioner
  3. P3O® Foundation and Practitioner
  4. P3O® Practitioner Re-registration

The P3O® Foundation introduces you to the P3O® business case, models, their strategic objectives, functions and services, roles and responsibilities, tools and techniques etc. whilst the Practitioner teaches you to apply it practically to implementing and/or revitalize a P3O®.

The P3O® Foundation and Practitioner learning contains all of the training and materials required to attain both the Foundation and Practitioner P3O® qualifications! Foundation and Practitioner each is conducted for three and two days respectively, at the end of which you appear for the respective exam.

The combined course of Foundation and Practitioner learning provides guidance on —

  • why, when and how to use P3O® models including the difference between portfolio, programmes and project environments and their different requirements
  • the value P3Os can bring to the organization including a business case, funding models and performance measures for establishing a P3O®
  • an overview of the different P3O® models with examples
  • the functions/services and techniques/tools used by units of a P3O® model

The practitioner re-registration is a necessity for all P3O® practitioners every 3 to 5 years. No relearning is involved. You can however choose to participate into the Practitioner workshop for a revision (fees chargeable). On passing the exam, you will retain your accreditation for next five years.
