About MSP®

MSP® (an acronym for Managing Successful Programmes) comprises a set of principles and processes for use when managing a programme. It is founded on best practice although it is not prescriptive. It is very flexible and designed to be adapted to meet the needs of local circumstances. Used extensively by the UK Government, MSP® is also widely recognised and used in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally. The MSP® methodology is in the public domain, and offers non-proprietorial best practice guidance on programme management.

In this context, a programme is made up of a specific set of projects identified and organized, coordinated and managed to deliver some defined objective(s) for the organisation. The objectives, or goals, of the programme are typically at a strategic level so that the organisation can achieve benefits and improvements in its business operation(s).

MSP® defines a programme as "A temporary and flexible organization structure created to coordinate, direct and oversee the implementation of a set of related projects and activities in order to deliver the outcomes and benefits related to organization's strategic objectives"; and it defines programme management as "the action of carrying out the coordinated organization, direction and implementation of a dossier of projects and transformation activities (i.e. the programme) to achieve outcomes and realize benefits of strategic importance to the business."

Key features of MSP®
  • Focus on corporate strategy, change delivery and business as usual
  • Framework based on three core concepts:
    - Principles
    - Governance Themes
    - Transfomational Flow
  • Methodology focused on three key elements:
    - Identification and delivery of Benefits
    - Quality and Assurance
    - Active Risk Management
  • Emphasis on delivering the benefits using unique projects
  • Flexibility that can be applied at a level appropriate to the programme that can be Vision-led, Emergent or Compliance-driven

  3. MSP® Foundation + Practitioner
  4. MSP® Practitioner Re-registration

Each course, if enrolled for individually, enables the participant to earn 24 PDUs and 16 PDUs respectively for Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) for certified PMI® professionals.

The MSP® Foundation and Practitioner learning contains all of the training and materials required to attain both MSP® Foundation and Practitioner qualifications. Enrollment to this course enables the participant to earn 40 PDUs for Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) for certified PMI® professionals.

Foundation and Practitioner are conducted for 3 and 2 days respectively, at the end of which you appear for the respective exam.

The MSP® Advanced Practitioner is aimed to confirm that you could lead a programme of transformational change by applying the MSP® Guidance in a complex programme within MSP® environment.

The MSP® Practitioner and MSP® Advanced Practitioner re-registration is a necessity for all MSP® Practitioners and MSP® Advanced Practitioners respectively every 3 to 5 years. No relearning is involved. You can however choose to participate into the respective workshop for a revision (fees chargeable).
